What, no links . . . ?New York –October 4, 2007 We at Biocentrix are no longer able to support links to anyone or anywhere except those that are politically progressive or socially responsible. Most of the others have become either ego-driven opinions and trivia (which will not effect in the slightest global warming, the globalization of greed, the almost universal ignorance and weakness that contributes to radical religion, or the elimination of the world's number one enemies, George W. Bush and Richard B. Cheney). Either that or they are buy-me-buy-me! sites. As for personal development and some sort of help in achieving self-control, which is what we are all about, most of the Internet links have devolved into catalogues of over-hyped gimmicks that don't work. Back in the mid-1990s we had great hopes for the Internet. Those hopes have been seriously diminished by the devolution of so much of the 'net into little more than an electronic shopping mall. [Cue vapid elevator music. Action: small bands of rude teenagers roaming around, shoplifting what they can. To picture this, just visualize the typical American shopping mall.] The rampant materialism and incessant striving for more and more things, coupled with the so-called information age, proves that there can be no real, worthwhile community of humans without socialization. When ugly, relatively worthless 14-year olds can influence or even stop the flow of communication by spewing out spam, computer viruses and mindless blather from the darkness of their bedrooms (provided by unsupervising, clueless parents), there is little hope of anything but moral rot and spiritual degradation. America will not cease being the primary evil empire (thank you, GWB) until a majority of its citizens wise up and start interacting with one another and agitating for constructive change. The direction of such change, if it should come about, will have to be toward regaining the high ground, which is going to be difficult because we have to begin from the muck and mire into which our government in Washington has sunk us. As it is right now, America is ruled by deeply ignorant bullies (the Republicans) and ineffective cowards who never saw a fight they wouldn't run from (the Democrats). Nothing good can come from this state of affairs. There is more to life, or at least there should be, than credit cards that are not maxed out or cell phones with the latest bells and whistles (but that don't work worth a damn otherwise). When World War II was beginning, Roosevelt called on Americans to rise to great heights, and the world pretty much agrees that we did just that. But when terrorist thugs brought down the World Trade Towers, Bush urged Americans to go shopping and, evidently, that's about all we've done. That is, other than attack Afghanistan and turn it into the pre-eminent opium producing country in the world, and hapless Iraq which wasn't originally but now is an invaluable terrorist recruiting tool, in addition to being a bottomless well down which American money is being poured at the rate of six-plus billion dollars a month. What a piece of offal is GWB. That goes even more for his master, Cheney. Every life lost in that region can be laid at their doorstep. If you would like to take issue with the ideas and sentiments stated here, or otherwise criticize us, forget it! Your are wrong and we couldn't care less what you think. If you don't recognize at least some truth in these brief remarks, you are part of the problem and, frankly, you'd be doing the planet a favor by getting lost. On the other hand, if you would like to tell us how much you agree with all or any of this, forget that too. We don't need it. Instead, go out and find someone who does not agree and try to convince them. If you don't know where to start, use your browser to do an Internet search for terms like Amnesty International, League of Women Voters, ACLU, secular humanism, dailykos, Huffington Post. That will be a start. And read every issue of The Nation cover-to-cover. March 4, 2008 Update |
