Would you be interested if I told you that in 21 days you could lose at least 10 pounds, continue losing more if you wanted, and keep it off? That you could do this without depriving yourself, without eating special foods, and without exercise? That in fact you could get to the point where it would be impossible for you to be overweight, even if you tried?
If this interests you – and if you have at least ten pounds you want to get rid of, regardless of your age – please read on.
The diet myth.
There is a myth prevalent in America today that says weight control is just a matter of finding the magic diet. A huge industry has sprung up to peddle whatever happens to be the latest diet fad to an unsuspecting public.
These diets-of-the-moment usually come under the imprimatur of some physician or phony doctor with extravagant claims. But here's a little secret about doctors and weight control – most doctors know less about diet and nutrition than the dietitian at the cafeteria of your local grade school! Nutrition is not taught in most medical schools. Doctors are trained to treat disease. And contrary to what anyone has told you, overweight is not a disease.
It is simply your body doing what it is supposed to do in times of plenty.
A significant aspect of the Diet Myth is that if it comes from a doctor, it must be good. Hogwash! Most doctors' diets on the market today are just concoctions that, like practically any method of restricting dietary intake, will work only because they restrict what you eat. They work only as long as you stay on them. That is to say, they work for as long as you can deprive yourself of what you want. That is a prescription for failure. Sooner or later, if you want something and you have the means to get it, you will. Period.
So there is no magic diet. There is no magical combination of foods that will make you want to stay indefinitely on some artificial eating regimen. That's why there are thousands of diets on the market and more appearing every day. Just take a look at all those magazines at the grocery store checkout counter. Every one of them introduces at least one new diet in every issue. And take a look at your local bookstore. The two largest sections in a bookstore are cookbooks and diet books.
If any diet actually worked permanently, that would be the end of the industry. You would stop seeing fifty new diets a day coming on the market. Fat chance of that happening! (Sorry. No pun intended.)
It is common knowledge that practically any diet will work if you just stay on it. But take my word for it – based on my more than 30 years of experience with people just like yourself in all kinds of clinical situations – you will not indefinitely stay on any diet! Eventually you must fall off of the diet. And no matter how much weight you got rid of, you'll gain back more than you lost.
“Been there, done that,” you say? Yes, most people have, some many times over.
The willpower myth.
Yet another myth related to eating and dieting is the willpower myth. This says that if you are overweight it is because you don't have enough willpower. Just summon up some willpower, stop eating so much, and you'll stop being overweight.
Again, hogwash! There just is no such thing as "willpower." The concept means conscious control over the subconscious, and that just doesn't work on any kind of long-term basis. In the subconscious mind there is a constellation of processes that give rise to the desire to eat. They are resident primarily (but not exclusively) in the central nervous system, which includes the brain and spinal column.
But you don't have to know all of this. All you have to know is that there is something – let's call it the Eating Control Center – in the subconscious part of your mind over which you have very little conscious control.
Get it? If you have very little-to-no conscious control over that part of the subconscious mind that drives you to eat, then there is no hope for anything called "willpower."
The good news.
What I just said is good news because it means you don't need that thing that you've never been able to master anyway: WILLPOWER. So instead of beating yourself up because you don't seem to have enough willpower, just figure out how to change the subconscious part of your mind that drives you to eat.
Well, actually you don't have to figure it out. I and others like me have already done that in laboratory and clinical settings with the help of thousands of volunteers. This is where self hypnosis comes in.
Back in the 1980s I was challenged to come up with a program that would work for people whose eating was out of control. My therapy clients and college students alike were constantly asking for help with their weight problems. I knew quite a bit about what I'm here calling the Eating Control Center of the brain, but I had never gotten organized on how to change it to make weight control easy and permanent.
I devised a research plan and started putting out the word that I needed volunteer subjects. The local newspaper got wind of what I was up to and wrote an article about it. When that article came out I was inundated with volunteers. Thousands of them. I accepted the most I could, given the constraints on time and meeting facilities at the college where I was teaching. I started with 800 subjects.
That was the beginning of what would later became known as the Red Rocks weight control program, named for the campus of the state university system where I taught and where we met to conduct my research. I have written about this elsewhere.
The 21 day miracle. The original research design called for a six-week program for the volunteers. But only halfway through just about everyone was already reporting astounding results!
Everyone kept daily journals with comments. They turned in copies to me. That was a lot of reading, but I enjoyed it. All of my subjects took the project very seriously. Permanent weight loss was important to them, and I knew that. Sometimes their comments brought tears to my eyes (and I'm a pretty big guy from a tough background). Here are just a few examples from their journals:
“[Day 1] Damn! I just barely started and I already feel different about food, better about myself.”
“[Day 4] [name] offered me a donut this morning, but I did not want it!!! It has been a long time since I turned down a donut.”
“[Day 5] My jeans zipped up easier today. I am liking myself better already.”
“[Day 7] I was afraid this would be hard like always before, but this is a piece of cake (which I am not eating because I don't want it!).”
“[Day 9] I forgot I was on a diet - I don't feel hungry, lots of new energy - this is working!!”
“[Day 14] [Husband] told me 'Honey, you look great.' First time in years he said that.”
“[Day 20] I thought I was behind everybody but I have dropped a dress size, no starving, and have improved my feeling of health. My tummy is getting flat again. Yea.”
Not a diet. Weight control with the Biocentrix Method of Self Hypnosis is not a diet. You do have to pick sensible foods, of course – you can't expect to be healthy if you eat nothing but french fries or ice cream. But what my Biocentrix Method will do is make it easy for you to stay on any diet you choose.
And after you've lost the weight you want to get rid of, my method will help you maintain your ideal weight. Without dieting.
You can avoid low-fat diets which leave you craving food. You don't have to go on a low-carb diets which force you to exist mostly on proteins and carry health risks. You can eat plenty of good carbs like fruits, veggies, and whole grains. You can pick whatever diet you want and that sounds healthy to you. (I personally prefer the Zone approach by Barry Sears, but it is entirely up to you. For books by Sears just go to amazon.com and do a search on “Barry Sears.”)
You won't even have to think about limiting the amount you eat. The reason ordinary approaches to dieting fail is because they ask you to deprive yourself, to depend on 'willpower.' Believe me, nothing will set you off on a binge faster than hunger pangs.
As simple as it gets. Ask yourself this: Isn't life complicated enough without having to analyze your food before you eat it? Could you really go through the rest of your life counting calories and weighing your food? Forever deprive yourself of things you want? Of course not!
And you don't have to. Once you are into my Biocentrix Method you won't need to obsess over how much of anything you eat. You will find yourself wanting to eat differently. You will overcome long-established eating habits. And those food-craving attacks will be a thing of the past.
You will get thin and stay thin for the rest of your life.
Dieting is not necessary. The only reason I recommend starting with a good diet is to make sure you know what's good for you and what isn't. Other than that, you really don't need a diet. If you already know what kinds of foods are healthy for you and the ones that aren't, that is all you need to know. You can leave the rest up to my Biocentrix Method.
The secret the diet industry doesn't want you to know. So you now know the secret the entire diet industry is scared to death you will learn: It is your Eating Control Center, not any one diet or particular kind of exercise, that determines whether you are lean and fit or fat and miserable.
And no diet or exercise machine can permanently change your Eating Control Center. Only the Biocentrix Method of Self Hypnosis can do that.
Keep in mind, too, that it is the Eating Control Center and its related processes of your brain that control your body chemistry. Once you have changed your subconscious Eating Control Center with the Biocentrix Method of Self Hypnosis, you will also have modified your body chemistry. It is not uncommon to find metabolism more efficient with more of what you eat going to productive energy instead of ugly, unhealthy fat.
I can't resist one more of the many testimonials to this program:
“I reduced down from 241 pounds to 173 with your method. For several years now I have maintained this weight without much effort. But here's what has shocked me: I have been able to stop taking diabetes medicine because it went away. I no longer have to take blood pressure medicine, and I've even been able to throw away the statin I was taking for my cholesterol.”
—Robert P., Denver
This is the kind of results I have seen over and over again. People lose weight, keep it off, and get a lot healthier while doing it. I feel so sorry for the people who don't know about this, who continually torture themselves going from one idle promise to the next, always looking for the magic diet.
By the way, don't throw away any medicine until you have medical clearance to do so. Remember, physicians are great at treating disease. Let them tell you when a condition no longer requires medication. You could even let a doctor recommend a good diet to get you started, if you need that. Most doctors are better informed these days about nutrition than they used to be. Just don't let one of them sell you a bill of goods about some magical diet.
How it works.
In a nutshell, here's how the Biocentrix Method of Self Hypnosis works, how it can help you permanently cure yourself of weight control problems.
Before I get into detail, I should tell you that my most recent self hypnosis book, published in 2003, has the most complete, up-to-date instructions. If at any point in what follows you feel you need more instruction or want to go into more depth, you can always get the book.
In what follows you will find links to pages on how to do it. Start with the self hypnosis induction. Formulate and apply suggestions designed to cut back on your desire to eat. For some people this is all it takes.
(Sometimes people find their own inductions to be less than satisfactory, so I have recorded a special weight control induction available on audio cassette tape and on compact disk.)
Try this simplified approach for a few days. If you don't immediately begin to see at least some results, no matter how slight, you need to fine tune your suggestions. That is, your suggestions are not hitting the mark so you need to find out what it is in your subconscious mind that is blocking your progress. This you can do with autoquestioning. By the way, I have also prepared both a tape and a CD on autoquestioning. The Autoquestioning CD has on it the contents of both the Autoquestioning tape and the Suggestion (formulation and application) tape, so it is a pretty good deal. Frankly, though, the book is more complete and up-to-date. But of course you can't listen to a book while driving to work, like you can a tape or CD.
This approach is the corpus of the original weight control program. There are refinements, of course, like measuring the depth of your hypnotic trance, using accelerated deepening techniques, and high-powered iconographic image suggestions. But for these more sophisticated procedures you need the book.
Safe and risk free. One final point: the Biocentrix Method of Self Hypnosis is completely safe and free of risk. You cannot hurt yourself doing self hypnosis. So you can be easy in your mind about using it. Feel free to experiment. As long as it is self hypnosis there is no risk. So enjoy it and the lifetime of easy weight control you can achieve with it.
By the way, here are the catalog links if you're interested in knowing more about my Weight Control CD or audio cassette tape.
